12 Baseball DIY Ideas for Kids Rooms and the Home
Vintage Baseball DIY Craft Bookends using old balls
I've been working on some new mood boards for boy's rooms and keep coming across terrific DIY's and uses for old baseballs.  Then it dawned on my... I should share them!  So, here are 11 great ways to use baseballs for home decor and 1 accessory I thought was clever for you moms to check out.

I've worked hard to find the original sources for these DIY's.  Please, if you share or Pin them always link back so the original source can be found.  If you want creatives to share their ideas in the future, then please honor and reward them with the original source link.  I've also watermarked the images with the sources so they don't get stripped by the pinning sites.

 #1-  BASEBALL BOOKENDS

Amanda over at Kaleidoscope of Colors grew up with great baseball memories.  Here she busts out the power tools to create these terrific bookends.  They're simple and perfect.
#2- RECLAIMED PALETTE BASEBALL FLAG

Heralded as a Fourth of July project, Courtney from Sweet C designs has a DIY that's perfect, at least I think so, for a boy's room, nursery or man cave.  It will have you rubber necking while you drive, looking for palettes to transform.

#3- SHADOW BOX BASEBALL FLAG

The age old tool brand Craftsman is offering a how to video that will walk you through the steps to create this timeless treasure.  For a kids room friendly variation I'd suggest painting the bats.  Imagine them in a grey toned color scheme or the classics red and white.

#4- BASEBALL LAMP BASE

Kirsten dons her gloves and hopefully protective eyewear to drill some baseballs turning an inexpensive lamp into a custom home run.  She blogs over at Paint Speckled Paw Prints.

#5- BASEBALL MOBILE

Okay you caught me...  this next idea doesn't actually use real baseballs.  Not that it couldn't but the light fabric versions are much safer for baby.  Designer Marianne Strong uses this fun mobile in what seems to be a show home which is featured over on HOUZZ.com.  While this could translate into a DIY, why bother.  All the work is done by Kimberly at Cotton to Metal .

#6- BASEBALL PLACE CARD HOLDERS

Love, Eat, Run's blog author Jenny and her hubby Brian created these allstar place card holders for their wedding.  These would be great decorations for an awards banquet, themed auction or as picture holders in a nursery or young athlete's room.
#7- BASEBALL WALL SHELF

Instructable member Petergottm takes you through the process of creating this terrific three shelf wall unit.  I might suggest securing it to a ledger board to give it extra strength and to prevent rambunctious boys from knocking it off the wall.

 #7- VINTAGE BASEBALL STRING BRACELET

There's several versions of baseball deconstruction jewelry out there with slightly different uses of a baseball.  This one caught my eye because it could easily be unisex.  Kathryn at I Can Find The Time and By Studio 13 has a great product for the baseball fan.

#8- PERSONALIZED BASEBALL WALL LETTERS

This photo from HGTV'S rate my space caught my eye.  Kevin Castora arranged baseballs into the shapes of letters for Chase's nursery.  I couldn't find a DIY that goes with this idea, so if you tackle it give me a link to your instructions.  I'd be happy to pass people on.
Create a name or monogram out of baseballs.
#9- BASEBALL WREATH

Kathy from Life on Lakeshore Drive shares her mixed vintage and new baseball wreath.  While she doesn't give us instructions, the idea is to drill through the baseballs and string them like pearls.  There are a ton of wreath versions floating around with ribbons, team names and balls painted team colors.  I like her simple, sophisticated approach.

#10- VINTAGE BASEBALL DISPLAY

Sometimes less is more.  I commend Accessorize and Organize for displaying these timeworn baseballs in what seems to be a wooden trug.  They let the charm of the collection speak for itself.  It's genius.  Variations of this idea could include placing the balls in glass jars, vintage urns or have them spilling out of old trophies.
Display baseballs in old trugs or containers.
#11- BASEBALL STORAGE BECOMES ART

This clever arrangement by Talk of the House showcases a variety of sports balls.  The idea addresses both storage and display at the same time.  I love it.

Display sports equipment in wire baskets affixed to the wall.
#12- BASEBALL FINIALS

Kerri from The Ugly House with the Lavender Door offers up a quick DIY on how to dress up a basic curtain rod with two baseballs.  You could adapt her instructions to create tie backs, wall pegs and other useful items for a nursery or child's room.

If you love some of these ideas then you might want to pick up a baseball mitt and stalk the home run fence at your nearest baseball game.  They won't know what to think when you catch the ball, drop to the ground and drill the heck out of it.  Wearing your goggles of course.

Do you have a favorite or a DIY to add to list?  Let me know in the comments below.
